Catholicism, Death, and Musicology

All Souls’ Day greetings, Geeks! You partied hard yesterday (and All Hallow’s Eve) with your Catholic cosplay, but now it’s time to put away the saints and focus on the suffering souls in purgatory, may God deliver them.

Purgatory is a great thing. It’s both an awful experience and an aweful experience, as it is simultaneously painful and hopeful. I’m glad we believe in purgatory; without it, I’d be doomed. Not that I’m aiming for purgatory. We should all aim for heaven. But let’s be honest, even aiming for heaven, I’ll probably be in purgatory for a while.

So to celebrate this Catholic doctrine and the rich history of All Souls’ Day, check out today’s Catholic influence on music across time.
